Become a Chartered Accountant in England & Wales

OnThursday, 20 November 2008, the ICAEW signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the ICAI (Institute of Chartered Accountants in India) with a view to establishing closer working relations between the two bodies as well as new recognition arrangements for members.

Ours is an Accountancy firm of Indian Chartered Accountants practicing in the U.K. and we offer a variety of services to U.K. and international clients. We offer help to Chartered Accountants in India to become members of Institute of Chartered Accountants of England and Wales and offer them assistance and advice to find a proper job, and thus get work experience. 1. Advantages of Becoming Member of CA in England & Wales:

A qualified Chartered Accountant with two years’ work experience can easily earn a minimum average salary of British Pounds 50,000 (equivalent to about Rs. 35 lakh) per annum.

Recognition of your qualification by the Institute in England & Wales automatically makes you eligible to work in a number of developed countries like Australia, Canada, South Africa, Republic of Ireland, etc. You are able to set up your own multi-country practices in India and U.K. In addition to practice, you can also offer management consultancy, financial advice and investment advice.

You get a better chance to join the Big Four Practices or with any other multi-national companies. This premier qualifications from U.K. will be your passport to your job market.

2. Steps to Become A Member of England & Wales

Memorandum of Understanding:

Under the terms and conditions of the Agreement signed on 20th November, 2008 in Jaipur (India), by Martin Hagen FCA, Deputy Presidentm UCAEW and Mr Ved Jaim, President, ICAI, members of either Institute with proper qualification and sufficient experience will be allowed to join the other by receiving appropriate credits for their existing accountancy qualification and, where relevant, recognition for their existing work experience.

Commenting on the signing of the MoU, Michael Izza, Chief Executive of ICAEW said:

"India has emerged as a significant player in the global economy. As a result of this agreement, members of the ICAEW will be able to work as Chartered Accountants within India. We also look forward to welcoming ICAI members to the ICAEW. Removing barriers for our members across markets through agreements such as this is an important part of our international strategy."

Joining the ICAEW (as an ICAI Member):

Existing members of the ICAI with a minimum of two years’ post qualification experience will be eligible for ICAEW membership subject to the conditions mentioned below:

  • passing the ICAEW’s Case Study Examination
  • completing the ICAEW’s Structured Training in Ethics Programme applicable to ICAEW provisional members

Members of ICAI with less than two years post qualification experience will also be eligible for ICAEW membership subject to passing the ICAEW’s Technical Integration Business Reporting and Technical Integration Business Change Papers of the Advanced Stage examination.

Credits for prior learning

Members of the ICAI will receive credits for all papers of the ICAEW’s Professional Stage examination. ICAI members with a minimum of two years’ post qualification experience will also receive credits for the Technical Integration Business Change and Technical Integration Business Reporting papers of the Advanced Stage examination.

Minimum entry requirements:

Members of the ICAI who have obtained membership by complying with its training and examinations requirements can become a member of the ICAEW. For this one must maintain ICAI membership to be eligible for ICAEW membership, and comply with our CPD obligations and Code of Ethics.

ICAI members must complete the ICAEW’s Technical Integration Business Reporting and Technical Integration Business Change papers, Case Study and Structured Training in Ethics.

Any one with two years of appropriate work experience will not need to take the Technical Integration papers.

How Do I Join the ICAEW?

To become a member of the ICAEW, you must complete the following steps:

  1. Register with ICAEW
  2. Apply for credit for prior learning
  3. Purchase learning materials for required examinations
  4. Undertake tuition
  5. Register for your examination(s)
  6. Appear for the examination and successfully pass it.
  7. Complete the Structured Training in Ethics Programme
  8. Apply for ICAEW Membership
Practising certificates and regulated areas:

Please note that membership of the ICAEW does not by itself confer practising rights. ICAI members who join the ICAEW will be eligible for a practicing certificate on the same terms as other ICAEW members.

UK audit rights are controlled by the Professional Oversight Board and cannot be conferred on ICAI members joining the ICAEW.

b. Apply for One Year Student Visa and Work and Study Option:

If you possess a student visa for a minimum period of one year, you are eligible to work 20 hours per week in U.K. You can earn money while you study for your qualification in England/Wales.

One you have arrived here, you can easily book tuition to suit your convenience.

We will arrange student visa for one year with some leading management institute. This is because you are not eligible to apply for one year student visa for the CA tuition.
We will arrange affordable accommodation for you.
We will advise and help you to find a job while you are here.

If you need, we will arrange accommodation within your budget.

Prior to arrival we clarify your entire query and make sure you are in right place.

After passing the exam we will help you to apply for Tier 1 visa. This will provide you with eligibility to work in the UK for 2 years

c. Study from India and on passing the required examination, apply for Tier 1 Work visa .

You can study for the ICAEW Course in India itself. We shall provide all necessary support for this too.

We send tuition note from UK on your request.

After becoming a member of ICAEW, you can come and work in UK after obtaining a visa under Tier 1 visa.
Once you are successful in obtaining a Tier 1 visa, you are free to work in UK.

We will offer you work experience in UK and assist you in finding the right job in UK. We will arrange affordable accommodation for you.

We will send your CV to various employers and make you acquainted with the technique of job interviews here.

After passing the exam we will help you to apply for Tier 1 visa. This will provide you with eligibility to work in the UK for 2 years
